Can I live without Facebook?

Today is the first day in a week-long experiment to find out just how attached to Facebook I am.  I know I spend hours there every day - hours I could use to do other things I like to do.

What do I do on Facebook?
I did this for watercolor class.  It isn't
wonderful, but it's pleasing.

  • I read every post written by any of my Facebook friends.  There are over 200 of them, but thankfully, they don't post every day.
  • I check in several times during the day to see what's happened since the last time I checked in.
  • I signed up with pages that offer interesting things like small houses, great pictures, cute kids, wise sayings, anything that amuses me or I think will amuse my friends.
  • I keep in touch with family, friends, cousins, aunts and uncles and they keep in touch with me.  This is a good feature of Facebook.
  • I share my pictures.  If you've been following my blog, you know I love to share pictures.  Here's one on your right.
So, I'm not sleeping while on Facebook.  I'm actively sharing things with people I've come to know and like.  It's kind of like blogging, but on a more immediate basis.

From today, Monday Aug. 6, until next Monday I will not log in to Facebook.  I can tell it will be tough, but maybe you all will be my friends and help me through it.

Deal?

The quote on the watercolor  is by Emily Dickinson and says:

Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul
And sings the tune without words
And never stops at all.

  1. I think I could live without FB. Totally. I only creep on that thing and post very rarely. I'll be curious to see what you find in your experiment.

The one thing I like is that you can see all your friends in one place--not like blog-hopping where you have to spend a lot of time catching up on everyone.

  2. Lin, I do like it that my family is on Facebook, though I family and friends who find it confusing or worthless. I look forward to returning to Facebook, but I'm going to set a timer. When it goes off, I'll be done for the day.

  4. The bird painting is not my best work, but if you want it you can have it. I'll get it in the mail to you when I finish painting my strange horse.
