A new day

I was a little down in my last post. I want you all to know I weathered it and am now fine. Part of the reason I'm fine is that after doing an echogram of my heart, my cardiologist says my heart is a little better than it was a year ago. That's good news.

I contribute the improvement to regularly exercising at Curves and keeping my diabetes in check. You know now what I go through, but I have to be honest and tell you that all of that fuss hardly slows me down. Depression is common among diabetics and if you read my last post, you know why. Sometimes all of that seems overwhelming, particularly if you aren't feeling good.

So, having told you all I'm better, I'm leaving to walk the dog. It's a beautiful sunny day between yesterday's rain and tomorrow's rain. Gotta do it.

Later - That was a very brisk walk. An antsy 100-pound dog has a hard time walking slowly. We did it though!

Thankful Fridays

I must thank Julie of Moments of Perfect Clarity for this idea. She listed 10 things for which she is thankful on her Friday blog and I'm hoping she'll forgive me for copying her idea.

I'm thankful for
  1. Being alive and moderately healthy. Tomorrow is my 70th birthday. I have much to be thankful for, including Curves and Zumba, both of which have been toning this body until I don't feel 70. Even though I've exercised hard five days this week, I'm thinking of going to Zumba class tomorrow just to say I did it on my 70th birthday.
  2. My loving and supportive husband and children. They just say "go for it" instead of trying to talk me out of things.
  3. The blogging community. I love you all. I love to blog and I love to talk and it's all compatible, isn't it?
  4. Living in Southern California. We've moved away many times and we always came back "home." Neither of us was born here (my youngest daughter was) but this is the spot that truly feels like home.
  5. My flowers and my husband's vegetable garden. These things are good for both body and soul. I'm grateful to have them.
  6. Square dancing. We learned to dance late in our lives and now it's an important part of it.
  7. The fact that I worked at many jobs. More than family, house, and such. It made me feel like I had an important place in the world. It's more than bringing home money (my husband does a good job of that), it's about the world respecting you and what you do.
  8. That I don't work any more. I miss it, but I do a lot of things now that I didn't have time for before.
  9. Love of art. My kids grew up visiting San Diego's many museums. I think (I hope) that is one of their grounding experiences. Art is so important to everyone.
  10. Love of music. It's always been a part of my life and it's something that will probably carry through the rest of my life.
I didn't think I could make it to ten. If I do this again next Friday, the list is going to be harder.

Have a good weekend.

Busy day

All my days are busy, but today was so busy I had to cut out line dancing. 8-( I was looking forward to the dancing, but I slept in so something had to go.

I did go to Curves. I have made a total commitment to exercising three days a week at Curves. It's 34 visits and counting. It was tough through Christmas and New Year's, but I managed to get in 13 visits in December.

I'm proud of that because I used to be a total marshmallow and my joints were beginning to complain loudly. Now that I'm exercising regularly I can walk easily, though my endurance isn't strong yet.

My day was full - just like I want my days to be. Now I've still got a commitment to do before the day ends. I want to begin filling in content for a newsletter I've just taken over for Sisters In Crime. Because a large percentage of the members are writers, I want the newsletter to be special. It may take a month or two to get there. Wish me luck!
